டென்மார்க்கில் இன்று கரும்புலிகள் நாள் நினைவுகூரப்பட்டது. மண்ணும் மக்களும் மறக்கமுடியாத மாவீரன் கப்டன் மில்லரோடு ஆரம்பமான கரும்புலிகளின் வீரவரலாறு ஆரம்பமான நாள் இன்றோடு 27 ஆண்டுகளை கடந்துள்ள நிலையிலும் இவர்களின் வீரமும், தியாகமும் இன்றும் ஒவ்வொரு ஈழத் தமிழர்களிடமும், ஏன்…. உலகத் தமிழர்களிடமும் உள்ளிருந்து இயங்கும் பெரும் விடுதலை சக்தியாக செயற்படுகிறது என்றால் அது மிகையாகாது. கரும்புலிகளை நினைவுகூரும் வகையில் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் ஜூலை 5ம் நாள் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்படும் நினைவு நாளே கரும்புலிகள் நாள்.

தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தின் முதல் தற்கொடைப் போராளியான மில்லர் 1987 யூலை 5ம் நாள் சிறிலங்கா பேரினவாத அரசுக்கும், அதன் இராணுவத்திற்கும் எதிராக, நெல்லியடி மத்திய மகாவித்தியாலயத்தில் நிலைகொண்டிருந்த இராணுவமுகாமின் மீது தற்கொடைத் தாக்குதலை நடத்திய நாளாகும்.

Anti-dowry Law Misused, No Automatic Arrest in Such Cases: SC

NEW DELHI: Expressing concern over misuse of anti-dowry law by "disgruntled" wives against her husband and in-laws, the Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that police cannot arrest accused in such cases "automatically" and it must give reasons for taking such steps which would be judicially examined.

The apex court said the attitude to arrest first and then proceed with the rest is "despicable" which must be curbed and directed all state governments to ensure that police do not resort to arresting in all offences punishable up to seven- year jail term including dowry harassment cases.

"We direct all the state governments to instruct its police officers not to automatically arrest when a case under Section 498-A of the IPC (dowry harassment) is registered but to satisfy themselves about the necessity for arrest under the parameters laid down flowing from Section 41 CrPC," a bench headed by Justice C K Prasad said.

It said that the police officer shall furnish the reasons and materials which necessitated the arrest before the magistrate.

Forced sexual relations between married couples not rape: Delhi Court

New Delhi - Sexual relations between a legally wedded husband and wife, "even if forcible, is not rape", a Delhi court has said while acquitting a youth who was accused of marrying a 21-year-old girl after serving her a sedative- laced drink and raping her.
"It is evident that the prosecutrix (girl) had willingly and in full senses solemnised her marriage with the accused and the marriage was registered in the office of Registrar of Marriages, Ghaziabad, on March 4, 2013. The parties engaged in physical relations with each other after the marriage.

"The girl was more than 21-years-old at the time. Thus the girl and accused being legally-wedded husband and wife and the girl being a major, the sexual intercourse between the two, even if forcible, is not rape and no culpability can be fastened upon the youth," Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat said while absolving the youth of the charge of rape.

 "Karnataka will be the first state in the country to go online. With this, application for correction of name and age, and for addition and deletion of names from the list, can also be made online," Karnataka's joint chief electoral officer T Shamaiah told STOI.

Microsoft Corp and Tata Consultancy Services have provided technical support to the project.

Eligible voters can get EPIC within a month, as against nearly nine months now. "The move is to digitize the system and make it faster," said Shamaiah.

An applicant will get mobile updates on the status of her application.

Among Bangalore's voters, 70% have EPIC as against 94% in other districts. In Karnataka, 87% of the voters are EPIC holders.

உத்தரபிரதேசத்தில் காவல்நிலையத்தில் மது அருந்தியபடியே காவல்துறையினர் ஹோலி பண்டிகையை கொண்டாடியது சர்ச்சையை கிளப்பியுள்ளது. அம்மாநிலத்தின் மொராதாபாத்தில் இந்த சம்பவம் அரங்கேறியிருக்கிறது. சாதாரண உடையில் இருந்த காவல்துறையினர், காவல்நிலையத்தில் மது அருந்தியபடியே கொண்டாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

கையில் மது பாட்டில்களை வைத்தபடி நடனமாடிய காவலர்கள், ஒருவர் மீது ஒருவர் வண்ணப் பொடிகளை தூவினர். காவல்நிலையத்தில் தொடங்கிய இந்த கொண்டாட்டம், தெருவுக்கும் வந்தது. மேலும் தள்ளாத போதையில் காவலர்கள் கீழே விழுவதும், எழுவதுமாய் இருந்தனர். போதையால் தடுமாறிய சிலர் எழ முடியாமல் தரையில் கிடந்தனர். தெருவில் இறங்கி கொண்டாட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட காவலர்களால் கடுமையான போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் ஏற்பட்டது.
